Scholarly Sources: Locating Scholarly Books/Chapters

Where can I find a scholarly book?

How do I get access to it?

The Library OneSearch has a scholarly and peer review filter, but it narrows results down to the article level and weeds out most books.  One thing you could try instead would be to include the phrase “university press” as a keyword (don’t forget the quotation marks!) and filter the results to show books/ebooks:

This same method can be used through the catalog interface, using “university press” as one of your keywords and selecting “Circulating Books” or “Electronic Books” from the drop down menu, whichever you’d prefer:

This method has its limits-- not all scholarly presses have "university" in the name.  Most books found at Kresge would be considered scholarly sources, but it would be wise to make sure that the book you want to use is an appropriate choice.  For more information on evaluating a resource, try the Evaluating Information tutorial.
